A weekend not to be missed!

On the weekend of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21st July, 10,00 am till 3,00 pm each day, the Society will be participating in an event being held by the Western Desert Recce Group at the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre.

The Group, a Registered Charity, is well recognised as a WW2 Re enactment group although their primary purpose is to raise awareness about the conflicts of WW2, particularly in respect of the Western Desert Campaign.

They light heartedly describe themselves as ‘a bunch of amateur historians’ but this belies the knowledge and talents of ex military personnel, teachers, students, mechanics, writers, farmers, a varied mix of backgrounds who make up the Group.

Their presentations include military vehicles and equipment from the WW2 period as well as a host of related artefacts. The equipment and materials they have on display is second to none and well worth seeing.

As well as setting up a ‘camp’ in the Centre grounds over the weekend where the vehicles and larger pieces of equipment will be on display, they also intend to have a further display in the Centre itself where the LFHS will be represented. David Anderson and his Fallen of Lanarkshire research facilities will be on site as well as representatives from the Commonwealth Graves Commission.

It will be a fascinating day out and the Centre café and its excellent fayre should not be missed.
