John Paterson and Margaret Cruckshanks were my 4x grand parents. I am descended through Margaret b.1799. I missed four of their children: John, Janet, Catherine, and Elizabeth. I would like to know more about them. The children I had identified I got from the IGI. I also found an Agnes Paterson marriage in 17 Aug 1860 to James McGlashaw. Agnes was age 36 and she gave her parents as John Paterson and Margaret Crookshanks. Do you know anything about her?

Hello Margaret
I am related to John Laird and Mary Dixon. Have all my family tree packed away as am renovating at home but 100% remember the marriage and names in my research. I went to Airdrie last October and found the staff at Airdrie Library more than helpful. They have lots of photo's etc in their genealogy section and could not of been more helpful. Good luck, I'd be interested in anything you can provide on the Laird/Dixon connection.

Hi Eileen,

I’d like to know more about John Laird and Mary Dixon. All I know of them is from the IGI, parish records and from their son, James, who is not listed in the IGI. James was born about 1810 and died 29 January 1855 in “Coatdyke near Coatbridge.” His death record gives his place of birth as Falkirk, but the 1851 census states Alloa, Clackannan. James married 1.) Mary Nisbet 18 Sep 1830 in Polmont, Stirling. They had children: John 1832, Richard 1833, James 1836, Abraham 1838, Thomas 1839, William 1841, Henry 1843, Elizabeth 1846, Thomas, 1848, and Mary 1849 (as listed on James’ 1855 death record.) He married Jane McLintock (my ancestor) in 1849 in New Monkland. They had children: William 1850, Margaret 1852 (my ancestor), and Jane 1854. His death record states his father, John, was deceased, but his mother, Mary Dixon, was not. I have looked and looked but I can’t find a civil death record for Mary Laird, Mary Dixon, or Mary Dickson. When did they die? Did they continue to live in Falkirk? Were John’s parents Abraham and Helen? Who were Mary’s parents? The children I have listed for John Laird and Mary Dixon are: Abraham 1802, Agnes 1805, John 1808, James 1810, Janet 1817, and Thomas 1820. There must have been more children born in the 1810 to 1817 gap, possibly when they were in Alloa. Who were the children’s spouses? So many questions!

Margaret

Hi Folks,
I am not a member but just registered. My GGGG Grandmother was called Margaret Paterson married to James Mitchell. The only record that I have of their existence is their dghtr Margaret (b circa 1830, Airdrie) Mitchell's marriage in Airdrie in 1856 (to George McGlaid), Subsequent records confirm that Margaret Junior was born in Airdrie. Oddly Margaret Junior called herself Janet on one census entry, She and her family were in Glasgow by 1875.
I have been unable to find any other references to her parents in any source. Do they ring any bells with anyone?

Hi everyone,
I have just come across this site and very excited to see some old family names I have been researching. John Laird and Mary Dixon (Dickison) were my GGGG Grandparents and James Laird is by GGG Grandfather. Jane McLintock was his 2nd wife and I am descended from his 1st wife Mary Nisbet through their 9th child Thomas b.1848. My Grandmother on my father's side was a Laird and keeping with tradition my Father's middle name was Laird. This has been kept up with my 16yr old nephew carrying the name Laird as his middle name.
To answer Margarets question re children of John and Mary Dixon, there was also a son William b.1813 in Falkirk and d.1857.
